Is environmentally friendly tableware really safe?

  Melamine tableware is a type of plastic tableware that has been widely used in recent years. Because it looks like porcelain or ivory, it is also called imitation porcelain tableware. This type of tableware is loved by consumers because of its lightness and unbreakable characteristics.

  As a type of melamine tableware, bamboo fiber tableware is claimed to be "green and environmentally friendly" and "recyclable", and is highly sought after by consumers. However, is this type of product really as good as the advertisement claims?

  In order to understand the difference in quality between bamboo fiber tableware and ordinary melamine tableware and help consumers better choose and use such products, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee conducted a comparative test on 30 pieces of melamine tableware sold on the market (16 pieces online and 14 pieces offline), including 17 pieces of tableware labeled as containing bamboo fiber and 13 pieces of ordinary melamine tableware, with prices ranging from 7.9 yuan to 89 yuan.

Test results:

  The raw materials, inks, adhesives, additives, etc. used to make melamine tableware contain non-volatile harmful substances, including melamine and formaldehyde. The national standard stipulates upper limits for total migration, specific migration of melamine and formaldehyde, among which the total migration is ≤10mg/dm, the specific migration of melamine is ≤2.5mg/kg, and the total specific migration (calculated as formaldehyde) is ≤15mg/kg.

  The test found that all 30 samples met the standard requirements,consumers can use it with confidence.
